Apostleship of the Sea
12th July was Sea Sunday. Apostleship of the Sea in England and Wales is part of an international network of agencies working in 89 countries to support people at sea. It is an agency of the Catholic Church. Its outreach involves spiritual and pastoral work, welfare, education and campaigning in support of seafarers, regardless of their nationality, colour or creed. There is a network of ship visitors, lay and ordained, paid and volunteer. There are drop-in centres in ports where seafarers can relax and contact their families.
We rely on seafarers to bring the vast majority – 95% - of materials and products we need into our country, yet they remain largely invisible to us. Often they are treated badly and can be lonely and cut off from their families for long periods.
